ABM (
NYSE:ABM), a leading provider of facility solutions, announced its ABM Building Solutions business has been selected by Colquitt County Schools in Moultrie, Georgia to implement district-wide, comprehensive infrastructure improvements through ABM’s Bundled Energy Solutions program. The customized solution developed by ABM will provide energy efficient upgrades and facility enhancements to all fourteen schools within the county. The project, scheduled to begin in July, 2014 and completed in June, 2016, is estimated to save $19 million in energy and operating costs over a 15-year period.
ABM’s Bundled Energy Solutions Program is designed as a financial solution to meet clients’ technical facility needs and sustainability goals. For ABM, the goal is to drive costs out of a client’s operating budget, allowing savings to be reallocated to fund mission critical facility needs.
“We are thrilled to be working with Colquitt County Schools,” said Keith Cowne, Education Specialist for ABM Building Solutions - Atlanta. “They are showing their community and their fellow school systems that they are among the most forward thinking by investing now in the infrastructure to save even more each day in the future while improving the learning environment for both students and staff.”
Energy and facility improvements will be made to the school district’s ten elementary schools, one middle school, one junior high school, and two high school buildings – one existing and one currently being built – as well as the facilities that house the county’s Pathways Educational Program, Gifted Services Program, and transportation offices. The comprehensive infrastructure upgrade includes replacing over 50% of the school district’s HVAC equipment and installing centralized building controls with remote capabilities. This will allow maintenance staff better management of the system’s assets. In addition, other building enhancements will include lighting upgrades, building envelope improvements, power management, transformer upgrades, refrigeration optimization, and utilization of water conservation methods. Two community banks, Ameris Bank and Commercial Banking Company, were selected to provide funding for the project. Local labor will be hired through Labor Ready to help complete the school district’s infrastructure improvements.
“We are proud to partner with ABM to not only make a difference in our district, but also our community as well,” said Dr. Samuel DePaul, Superintendent for Colquitt County Schools. “The project helps to stabilize our budgeting efforts while supporting the district’s goal of providing a safe and quality learning environment.”
Overall, the project will generate more than $100,000 a year in general fund relief without any upfront costs and supply critical mechanical upgrades to the schools within the district. In addition, students, staff, and facility will benefit from improved lighting, indoor air quality and classroom temperatures throughout the buildings.
"Colquitt County School District's improved learning environment will deliver a setting conducive to better attendance rates and increased student achievement," said Scott Giacobbe, President of ABM Building & Energy Solutions. "ABM is proud to provide a financial solution that impacts over a fourth of the county's population and makes a substantial difference in the quality of the district's fourteen schools."
