Wednesday, November 14, 2018

Josiah Tiegs, an apprentice for McDowall Comfort Management in Waite Park, MN, took first place in the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors National Associations (PHCC) HVAC Apprentice Contest on October 10-11 in Albuquerque, NM. McDowall Comfort Management has been a Linc Service contractor since 1984.

Tiegs competed against 10 HVAC contractors from across the United States. The contest was hosted by the PHCC Educational Foundation.

The foundation aims to provide innovative, educational programming to enhance the growth of the plumbing and HVAC industries.

"These contests are an incredible demonstration of the opportunities that exist because of the Foundation," said Foundation Chair Craig Lewis on the PHCC website. "You have these amazing apprentices from all over the country coming here to show off their skills."

As part of the contest, Tiegs completed a written test, demonstrated proper brazing techniques and performed a hands-on diagnostic on an HVAC package unit, with system errors created by PHCC contractors. In addition, he performed a pressure and leak test, demonstrated proper refrigerant recovery procedures and the ability to read a variety of instruments.
